The Cypherpunks of the World series pays tribute to the people who defined cypherpunk, articulated its ideas and wrote the code. Thirty years after the May 1993 Wired article, key figures of the movement put on masks again, this time as raw painted portraits. Anonymous Satoshi Nakamoto stands at the center with open eyes; the others have theirs closed. The title comes from Timothy C. May's introduction to the Crypto Anarchist Manifesto. The gallery contains eleven portraits: Satoshi Nakamoto, Nick Szabo, Wei Dai, Philip Zimmerman, David Chaum, Timothy C. May, Hal Finney, Eric Hughes, John Gilmore, Adam Back and Julian Assange. Made during the COVID lockdowns in 2021, the series draws on Wired's article about the early cypherpunk movement. It includes augmented reality via Artivive and was minted as an NFT on L-BTC through the now-closed Raretoshi platform.
